Disability Living Allowance and Blue Badge info
Many people with ME are entitled to claim DLA in IOM, which is not means tested. You may claim if you are under 65, and need help with getting around, and/or help with personal care. We have digital and hard copy information leaflets about DLA, and claiming for a Blue Parking Badge. Please contact me for more information.
- On 4 Feb Pigs on the Wing held a concert in Port St Mary in aid of M.E. Support (IOM). They gave us profits from the ticket sales and allowed us to do a retiring bucket collection, giving us a magnificent total of £1,493. A huge thank you to the whole group for their support and their general friendliness on the day.
- We are also hugely grateful to Integrated Capabilities in Ramsey for a donation of £270 from staff dress down days.
- On 7 April we were presented with a cheque for £2,000 from Peel Charity Shop. We were enormously grateful for their support. They were celebrating having reached the one million pounds mark in funds donated to charity!
We do not charge membership fees, and so could not operate to support members without these very generous donations.
Inspiring visit from Linda Tannenbaum, from OMF in California, 24 – 26 May
We gave Linda a jammed pack programme of meetings with various people including the Minister Kate Beecroft, presentations to Tynwald members, a public meeting, informal meetings with members, & Manx Radio, all to raise awareness and move forward government plans to set up a service here on the Isle of Man. Check out news of Linda’s European Tour www.omf.ngo/worldwide-tour-blog/
Linda’s daughter suddenly fell ill 10 years ago aged 16 and was bed ridden for a year. Linda realised there would not be a cure because no one was doing research. So she set up the Open Medicine Foundation to raise funds for research, and raised $6 million in 3 years!! She met Prof Ron Davies Director of the Genome Technology Centre at Stanford University. So he heads up the international research, and she raises the funds.
They brought a message of hope, and are talking about doing trials on possible effective treatments in the next year or so!!
